About FRIENDS OF CAMP MATHER
Friends of Camp Mather (FoCM) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports Camp Mather, a San Francisco Recreation & Parks family camp near Yosemite. FoCM operates the Camp Mather General Store (returning 100% of profits to camp), funds capital and program needs, and volunteers on-site to maintain and enhance the visitor experience.
Over the last two decades FoCM has contributed more than $2 million in cash and materials (and an additional approximately $1 million in volunteer labor) to Camp Mather. Recent years (2022–2024) saw targeted investments in camp infrastructure and safety — for example new mattresses and bed frames, dining-hall equipment (including a 2024 ice-machine purchase), lake and lifeguard equipment, radios and medical supplies — plus direct purchases reported to the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department in 2024 to support camp operations.
FoCM remains actively engaged with campers and the city: it helps run seasonal services (the camp typically serves about 450–500 people per week over a ten-week season, roughly 4,500–5,000 guests per summer), holds monthly public board meetings, runs volunteer and fundraising programs, and supported Camp Mather’s 100th‑anniversary activities in 2024.
