About CLAYTON COMMUNITY LIBRARY FOUNDATION

The Clayton Community Library Foundation (CCLF) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) friends group formed in 1989 to support the Clayton Community Library (opened March 1995). The foundation raises money through memberships, donations, grants and semi-annual used-book sales to fund books, electronics, furniture, technology and public programs that are not covered by public budgets. In recent years CCLF has remained active in community fundraising and programming: the foundation’s website and local city listings note continued used-book sales (including a 2024 sale) and the library celebrated its 30-year anniversary in 2025. The foundation’s EIN (68-0190953) is published on its official site and on nonprofit directory records, confirming its tax-exempt status and donor-facing operations. CCLF works closely with the City of Clayton and the Contra Costa County Library system to expand local services (summer reading, teen and adult programs, technology access) and to mobilize volunteers and community members in support of the branch.

Notable achievements

Sustained fundraising (over $250,000 raised)

Since its founding the foundation has raised more than $250,000 to purchase books, electronic equipment, furniture and to underwrite library programs and materials beyond the county budget.

Regular community book sales

CCLF organizes semi-annual used-book sales (members’ preview nights and public sale days) that both engage volunteers and generate a steady stream of program and collection funding; recent sales were held in 2024 and are scheduled for 2026.

Technology and program support (3D printing and programs)

In the last 2–3 years the foundation funded technology and program enhancements—examples include support for a 3D printer and maker/learning resources that expanded hands-on STEAM and digital-creation offerings at the Clayton branch.
