About EARTH TEAM

EarthTeam is a Richmond, California–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (est. 1994) that delivers curriculum-connected, project-based environmental education and leadership opportunities to middle and high school students in the Bay Area. Programs emphasize hands-on experiential learning, peer-to-peer education, and community projects that link classroom science to local environmental action. In the last 2–3 years EarthTeam has continued yearlong school internship programs (including the ZeroLitter internships), run regional student events such as its Leaf conference, partnered with local governments and conservation funders, and maintained annual IRS Form 990 filings showing program-first revenues and staffed program delivery. The organization positions student projects to produce measurable local impacts (litter reduction, habitat work, climate action planning) while building pathways to college and environmental careers.

Notable achievements

ZeroLitter school internship network

Operates yearlong ZeroLitter internships across multiple public high schools (roughly 10 schools in recent years), training students in litter audits, mapping and classification, peer education, and schoolwide behavior-change campaigns.

Leaf conference (2025)

Hosted a regional one-day Leaf conference in May 2025 that brought together students from multiple schools (about 107 attendees), awarded program diplomas and stipends, and facilitated cross-school project sharing and peer learning.

Competitive grants & municipal partnerships

Secured competitive funding and local partnerships in the last 2–3 years, including grants to support habitat and youth conservation work (e.g., a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant) and contracts/partnerships with Bay Area municipalities for community events and neighborhood projects.
