SCHOOL OF THE WOODS

School of the Woods is an independent, nonprofit Montessori day school in the Houston area (main campus on Wirt Road with a separate high school campus on Bobbit Lane) offering programs for children ages roughly 2½ through grade 12. The school integrates Montessori pedagogy with college‑preparatory academics and Texas graduation requirements to support students’ intellectual and social development across Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle and High School levels. Founded in 1962, School of the Woods describes itself as the oldest continuously operating Montessori school in the Houston area and emphasizes a wooded campus environment that is part of the educational experience. The school continues to operate as an accredited, college‑prep Montessori institution, maintains American Montessori Society credentials among faculty, and publishes current faculty and trustee leadership for the 2023–2024 year. In recent years the school has sustained its external accreditations and program offerings, completed its modern high school facility and all‑school gymnasium (completed 2019), and continues to host admissions events, campus tours and open houses while enrolling students across all grade levels.
