About HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL SEAMENS CENTER

The Houston International Seafarers Center is a long-established maritime ministry that offers pastoral care, ship visits, transportation, communication services, a commissary, and recreational facilities for seafarers calling at the Port of Houston. It operates daily ship-visiting and outreach programs, provides chaplaincy and training, and distributes gifts and welfare assistance to visiting mariners. Since operations began, the Center has helped more than 2.5 million international seafarers (service total reported since 1972), providing spiritual, social and practical support to mariners visiting Houston.

2024 Service Impact

2024 operational statistics reported by the Center include 5,088 vessel visits and 101,760 seafarers served; the Center also reported transporting 3,055 seafarers and distributing over 10,000 shoeboxes and tens of thousands of small gifts and resources.

Sustained Fundraising & Community Events

The Center runs a long-running annual Maritime Gala (47th edition in 2026) and other donor programs that serve as primary fundraising and engagement vehicles, attracting industry leaders and corporate sponsors to support ongoing humanitarian services.
