About HOUSTON AREA WOMENS CENTER INC

Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) is a longtime Houston-based nonprofit (EIN 74-2029166) providing crisis intervention, shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, prevention education and supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking. HAWC operates a 24/7 crisis response system (hotlines and LiveChat), regional service hubs, and a large staff and volunteer network to deliver trauma-informed, client-centered services. In 2025 HAWC opened a new flagship campus (One Safe Place Houston) that substantially expanded its housing and residential services.

Opened One Safe Place Houston (2025)

Launched a 5.5-acre flagship campus that includes 135 supportive-housing apartments and combines residential and non-residential services; the site housed hundreds of women, children and families in its first year of operation.

Expanded 24/7 Crisis Response

Maintains 24/7 domestic violence and sexual assault hotlines plus LiveChat; in 2025 the organization averaged more than 106 hotline calls per day (35,446 calls) and handled 3,420 LiveChat conversations, serving immediate safety needs at scale.

Broad prevention, counseling and housing impact

In 2025 HAWC counseled and advocated for nearly 2,700 survivors, reached nearly 6,500 professionals and community members through prevention/education, and provided supportive housing to hundreds of clients.
