About Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department

Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD) is a volunteer-run emergency services organization serving the mountain communities around Westcreek, Trout Creek, Turkey Rock, Lost Valley Ranch and Lutheran Valley Ranch and portions of Pike National Forest in Colorado. The department operates three stations and fields roughly 25 active responders to protect a rugged, high‑altitude district of about 100 square miles.

MCVFD provides structural and wildland fire suppression, backcountry rescue and emergency medical services (the department reports roughly 200 calls per year, about 70% of which are EMS). The department emphasizes regular training, community fire prevention and local fundraising to maintain vehicles and equipment.

Note on tax status: I was not able to verify MCVFD as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The department’s website states donations are tax-deductible, while other public records list the listed EIN (74-2393876) under a different nonprofit classification. If tax-deductibility is essential, please verify the organization’s current IRS status using the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search or request the organization’s IRS determination letter.
