About ADAMS 12 FIVE STAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION

The Five Star Education Foundation is the exclusive nonprofit partner to Adams 12 Five Star Schools, founded in 1985 to raise community funds for programs outside the district’s general budget. It focuses on career readiness, learning readiness, emergency support, and capacity building that help students graduate prepared for a range of postsecondary options.

The Foundation operates grant programs (YES Fund and other pathway funds), runs student-facing initiatives such as the Five Star Trail career-discovery platform, and partners with the district and local employers to create hands-on, real-world learning experiences.

In recent years the Foundation has published multi-year strategic plans (2024–2027), issued annual program yearbooks (most recently 2023), and expanded wraparound supports — including resource closets, mental-health staffing, and summer exploration programming — to remove barriers for students and families.

Notable achievements

District-wide resource closet network

As of 2022 the Foundation supported 37 resource closets, equipping a majority of district schools with supplies to remove barriers to learning.

Expanded student support staffing

Funded district-level mental-health and health-aide positions (including one internal mental-health professional and multiple health aides) and multi-year family outreach roles to strengthen student wellbeing (supports documented for 2022–2024).

Launch and growth of Five Star Trail

Built an online career-discovery platform connecting grades 8–12 students to training, internships, apprenticeships, and local employer information to increase career awareness and workforce readiness.
