About COLORADO PHYSICIAN HEALTH PROGRAM CORPORATION

The Colorado Physician Health Program (CPHP) is a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1986 that provides confidential, peer-based assessment, referral, monitoring and support services to Colorado-licensed physicians, physician assistants and anesthesiology assistants, as well as trainees. CPHP operates as the designated peer assistance provider under Colorado law and delivers direct services at no cost to eligible Colorado practitioners.

CPHP emphasizes early intervention, clinical evaluation, treatment referral and long-term monitoring to protect practitioner health and patient safety. The program also provides education, outreach, training contracts for residency and student programs, and conducts research and client-satisfaction measurement to improve services and inform the broader provider-wellbeing field.

Notable achievements

Designated State Peer Assistance Provider

Serves as Colorado’s designated peer assistance provider under state peer-assistance legislation since the program’s founding, operating statewide to receive referrals and deliver evaluation, treatment referral and monitoring services for licensed physicians, PAs and anesthesiology assistants.

Strong client-reported outcomes

Consistently high client satisfaction and measurable outcomes on exit surveys (majority 'very satisfied', large proportions reporting clinical/professional improvement, and high successful completion rates), demonstrating positive impact on practitioner wellbeing and work-related stress.

Program growth and new initiatives (last 2–3 years)

Expanded program offerings and partnerships in recent annual reports, including continuation of peer-wellbeing consulting services and development of new early-intervention efforts (Provider Health Introduction) and research activities to strengthen statewide provider support.
