Su Teatro’s mission is to promote, produce, develop and preserve the cultural arts, heritage, and traditions of the Chicano/Latino community; to advance mutual respect for other cultures; and to establish avenues where all cultures may come together. The organization affirms that art is essential to a democratic society and should reflect the diversity of the country's cultural landscape.

About Su Teatro

Su Teatro is a Denver-based, multidisciplinary Chicano/Latino cultural arts center and theater company founded in the early 1970s. It produces an annual mainstage season, community festivals (including film, music, and literary programming), touring productions, and year-round arts education and outreach. Su Teatro operates a multi-space cultural facility in Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District (721 Santa Fe Drive) that includes a main performance house, a smaller studio space, gallery programming, and education programs. The organization centers Chicano/Latino stories and language while programming to engage youth, families, and broader community audiences.

Notable achievements

50th Anniversary

Marked a 50-year milestone in 2023 with public programs and community-focused events celebrating Su Teatro’s history as one of the nation’s longest-running Chicano theatre companies.

Established permanent cultural home in Santa Fe Arts District

Secured and developed a multi-space cultural center at 721 Santa Fe Drive (the former Denver Civic Theatre), creating a year-round venue with a main theatre, studio space and gallery for performance, film, music, and education.

Original productions and regional/national touring

Created and produced more than a dozen original full-length works that have toured regionally and nationally, while also founding recurring festivals such as XicanIndie FilmFest, Chicano Music Festival, and WORDFest.
