Friends of the Aurora Public Library

Friends of the Aurora Public Library (FAPL) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in the late 1970s and reorganized as the current nonprofit in 1987 to raise funds and support for Aurora Public Library. The group operates The Book Outlet, a used-book retail store whose proceeds are directed to library programming.

In recent years FAPL has provided consistent annual financial support—typically in the range of $60,000–$70,000—directly funding library programs including summer and winter reading programs, storytimes, summer camps and extensive outreach work. The organization maintains an active membership program (500+ members) and partnerships with online booksellers to broaden fundraising.

FAPL combines retail sales, memberships, donations and special campaigns (including participation in Colorado Gives Day and targeted capital campaigns) to provide flexible funding that supplements municipal library budgets and enables additional children’s, youth and community programs across Aurora.
