Mission

The South San Francisco Friends of the Library works in partnership with Library Management to enhance public library collections, programs, and services by raising funds, encouraging gifts and endowments, promoting community support, and providing volunteer assistance. The organization operates as a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) so that all monies raised directly benefit library programs and services.

About South San Francisco Friends of the Library

Established in 1975, the South San Francisco Friends of the Library is a volunteer-run nonprofit that supports the Main and Grand Avenue branches of the South San Francisco Public Library. It raises funds through membership, donations, a daily Friends bookstore and periodic large book sales to supplement library programs, materials, and equipment. The Friends directly support a range of programs and community events — including youth programs (Discovery Center and Makerspace, Summer Learning, Free Comic Book Day), storytimes in multiple languages, author talks, and community heritage events — and works closely with library staff to identify priority needs. The group holds quarterly public board meetings and publishes minutes, maintains an active membership drive, and continues to fund and volunteer for library services and events during the last several years (including activity in 2023–2025).
