HEARD NATURAL SCIENCE MUSEUM AND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY INC

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1967 that operates a museum and a 289-acre wildlife sanctuary in McKinney, Texas. The organization preserves Blackland Prairie and other native habitats while maintaining museum exhibits, a large natural history collection, and live animal ambassador programs. Heard delivers year-round public and school-focused programming — including camps, field trips, family events, and Master Naturalist collaborations — to connect children and the general public with local ecology and conservation science. The museum also manages collections and ongoing conservation work that support education and regional biodiversity monitoring. In the last 2–3 years Heard has continued active Blackland Prairie restoration and infrastructure maintenance (trail repairs, habitat management and controlled burns), updated trail and visitor resources, and pursued local grant support and community partnerships to strengthen its restoration and education initiatives.
