BLACK ACADEMY OF ARTS AND LETTERS INC

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL), founded in 1977, is a long-established Dallas-based cultural institution that presents performances, exhibitions, films, festivals and education programs focused on African, African American and Caribbean arts and letters. TBAAL operates a year-round season of performances and major public events (including the Riverfront Jazz Festival and an annual Black Music & the Civil Rights Movement concert) and runs arts-education programs for children and youth. In recent years TBAAL has continued active public programming while managing a transition of its venue footprint under the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center master plan; the organization secured a supplemental lease to operate in the Women’s Building at Fair Park and has operated from a temporary Fair Park location while the Convention Center theater complex is planned for renovation. TBAAL also maintains institutional archives held in partnership with a regional research library and continues partnerships with Dallas area schools and civic programs.
