Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT), founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, is the oldest continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas and a longstanding national presence in contemporary modern dance. The organization produces main-stage seasons, touring performances, community festivals (including DanceAfrica), and year-round education through its official school, the Dallas Black Dance Academy, and its training company DBDT: Encore!.
In the last 2–3 years DBDT expanded its virtual education and student-matinee offerings (reaching large K–12 audiences), continued touring and presenting repertory work in major venues, and announced milestone programming tied to its 50th anniversary season.
