About Highland Park ISD Education Foundation
The Highland Park ISD Education Foundation (HPEF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises philanthropic support for the Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD). The Foundation manages the Tartan Endowment, operates annual fundraising campaigns (including Mad for Plaid), awards teacher and student scholarships, and provides district-wide program and salary support.
HPEF serves as the primary community fundraising partner for HPISD, supporting teacher salaries, classroom innovation grants, scholarships for graduating seniors, and long-term endowment growth. In recent years the Foundation has led the multi-year Lead for Tomorrow endowment campaign and maintained multi-million-dollar annual grants to the district to sustain curricular and staffing priorities.
Notable achievements
Lead for Tomorrow endowment campaign
Launched in the early 2020s to grow the Tartan Endowment, the Lead for Tomorrow campaign exceeded its public goal and raised tens of millions of dollars to strengthen permanent, unrestricted support for HPISD (campaign totals reported in excess of the original $40M goal).
Historic grantmaking
Over its multi-decade history HPEF has directed tens of millions in grants to HPISD; the Foundation reports more than $35 million granted across its history and has delivered $20M+ in grants in the recent five-year period.
Sustained annual support for HPISD
In recent fiscal years the Foundation has provided recurring, district-level grants in the multi-million-dollar range that fund teacher compensation initiatives, district programs, and student scholarships (annual grant payments to HPISD commonly total several million dollars per year).
