About FRIENDS OF THE UNIVERSITY PARK PUBLIC LIBRARY
Friends of the University Park Public Library is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization that supports the University Park Public Library (serving University Park/Dallas, TX). The organization was established as a tax-exempt public charity in 1992 (EIN 75-2258290) and operates as a donor-facing friends group to raise funds, recruit volunteers, and sponsor programs.
The Friends fund and run community-facing initiatives including the Meet Me at The Library lecture series, summer reading programming, and the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early-literacy effort. It also supports library collections, subscriptions, technology upgrades, and local-history access and exhibits.
Since the library’s grand opening in its permanent Preston Center location in January 2013, the Friends have been a steady financial partner and program sponsor. Recent, measurable impact includes support for the 2024 Summer Reading program (486 participants logging more than 9,295 hours of reading and 1,314 children and teens participating in library summer programs), and the group reports having contributed more than $2.25 million to the library since 2013.
