About THE INTERNATIONAL RHINO FOUNDATION

The International Rhino Foundation (IRF) is a Fort Worth, Texas–based 501(c)(3) conservation organization (EIN 75-2395006) dedicated to the survival of the world’s five rhino species. IRF operates through long-term partnerships with range-country governments, protected-area managers, NGOs and zoo partners to fund and manage field protection, applied research, captive-breeding support, and community engagement. IRF’s core program areas include Rhino Protection Units, the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary, Indian Rhino Vision partnerships, anti-trafficking and intelligence support, and targeted science grants. The organization maintains regular public reporting (annual/impact reports and IRS Form 990 filings) and operates donor-facing programs including project sponsorship, adoptions, and fundraising campaigns. In the last 2–3 years IRF has supported documented breeding successes at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (calves born in 2023), published updated State of the Rhino population assessments through 2024/early 2025, and expanded work to disrupt trafficking networks and strengthen wildlife crime investigation capacity in parts of Africa and Asia.

Notable achievements

Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary breeding successes (2023)

IRF supported the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary’s ongoing breeding program in Sumatra; sanctuary staff reported multiple calf births in 2023, strengthening the insurance population for this critically endangered species.

Indian Rhino Vision partnership

IRF was a founding and long-term partner in Indian Rhino Vision initiatives that fund translocations, habitat restoration and protection efforts to expand and stabilize greater one-horned rhino populations in Assam and neighboring range areas.

Trafficking disruption and law-enforcement support

IRF has funded and coordinated intelligence, investigation and prosecution capacity-building projects and supported partners whose work contributed to significant trafficking investigations and prosecutions (including high-profile Javan rhino poaching cases) and anti-trafficking efforts across the Kavango Zambezi region and Asia.
