About DEEP ELLUM FOUNDATION
The Deep Ellum Foundation is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages the Deep Ellum Public Improvement District (PID) and coordinates services, programming, and improvements across the Deep Ellum neighborhood. The foundation serves property owners, businesses, residents and visitors by funding supplemental cleaning, maintenance, safety, marketing, placemaking, and cultural initiatives. In recent years the foundation has focused on public safety integration, cultural preservation, and community-facing programming including the opening of a community center and the implementation of a multi-point community safety plan. The organization operates as the PID management entity under a City of Dallas contract and develops annual service plans and budgets sourced from PID assessments.
Notable achievements
Deep Ellum Community Center Opening (2023)
Founded as a partnership with local cultural organizations, the Deep Ellum Community Center opened in late 2023 as a neighborhood hub with rotating history exhibitions, meeting and studio space, and programs that celebrate the district’s music and cultural history.
Deep Ellum Historic District National Register Listing (2023)
Supported preservation and research efforts that contributed to the Deep Ellum Historic District being listed on the National Register of Historic Places (listed June 30, 2023), reinforcing the neighborhood’s cultural and architectural significance.
Expanded Public Safety & Homeless Outreach (2022–2023)
Implemented a coordinated public safety program including a DEF command center (opened 2022), over 60 public cameras tied to Dallas Police access, expanded off-duty and DPD dedicated patrols (dedicated DPD entertainment-district unit established Nov 2022), and a homelessness outreach effort that reported connecting dozens of individuals to shelter, mental-health/substance-abuse treatment and housing in 2023.
