About FRIENDS OF THE KATY TRAIL INC
Friends of the Katy Trail is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit steward responsible for operating, maintaining, and enhancing the 3.5-mile Katy Trail in Dallas for residents and visitors. The organization funds and manages landscaping, lighting, water stations, safety patrols, signage, surface repairs, public art, and community programming through memberships, events, sponsorships, grants, and donations.
The group was formed in 1997 as a public–private partner with the City of Dallas and now supports millions of annual visits to the Trail. In recent years Friends of the Katy Trail has focused on capital improvements, restoration plantings, soft-surface path repairs, public art installations, and fundraising to match city bond investments that expand and improve the Trail.

Major fundraising and fiscal scale (FY2024)
Reported substantial operating scale in 2024 with roughly $4.75 million in income and $4.50 million in expenses, directing the majority of funds to trail operations and improvements.
Secured City bond support and local match campaign
Helped secure inclusion of two Katy Trail projects in the 2024 City of Dallas bond program and raised $1 million toward the organization’s campaign goal to meet the City match for those projects.
Capital and program accomplishments (2024)
Completed a major planting restoration project, opened the Staubach Pass Plaza connection at Harvard, repaired sections of the soft-surface path, and expanded Katy Trail Art public installations.
