About Ellis County Master Gardeners Inc (Ellis County Master Gardener Association)

Ellis County Master Gardeners Inc (also operating as the Ellis County Master Gardener Association, ECMGA) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization that supports the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service by delivering horticultural education, public demonstration gardens, and community outreach throughout Ellis County, Texas. The group runs an annual Lawn & Garden Expo, offers an intern Master Gardener training class, produces a bimonthly e-newsletter, and maintains several public learning gardens (including the Horticulture Learning Center & Butterfly Garden in Waxahachie and the Ridgeview Park gardens in Midlothian). In recent years (2023–2026) ECMGA has remained active with recurring public events, newsletters, plant sales and volunteer-driven educational programs that collectively contribute thousands of volunteer hours to local horticulture and conservation education.

Notable achievements

Annual Lawn & Garden Expo

Operates a longstanding, large public Lawn & Garden Expo (held annually in Waxahachie) that draws the community for workshops, vendor plant sales, and demonstration programming; the Expo marked its mid-2020s anniversaries with continued in-person events and plant sales.

Public Demonstration Gardens

Developed and maintains multiple public learning gardens (including the Waxahachie Horticulture Learning Center & Butterfly Garden and Ridgeview Park demonstration beds) used for education, pollinator habitat, and hands-on workshops.

Training and Volunteer Impact

Provides yearly Master Gardener intern training (50+ hour class) and sustained volunteer outreach; the volunteer corps contributes thousands of hours annually to community education, plant clinics, school and community gardens, and extension support.
