About PLANO CONSERVANCY FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION INC

The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2001 and based in Plano, Texas. The organization operates community-facing programs that preserve and interpret local heritage, most notably managing the Interurban Railway Museum since 2001.

The Conservancy runs regular public programs and events—including an annual Archaeology Fair, Scout merit-badge classes, weekly Storytime at the museum, wayside-sign installations, oral-history projects, and cemetery restoration/outreach. In the last 2–3 years the organization has continued public programming (including its 21st Archaeology Fair as listed on its site in 2025) and has received local grant support for interpretive materials and brochures.

Notable achievements

Long‑term management of Interurban Railway Museum

Since 2001 the Conservancy has operated Plano’s Interurban Railway Museum (the historic 1908 Texas Electric Railway station), providing ongoing exhibitions, tours, docent programs, and public access to a restored vintage railcar.

Annual Archaeology Fair (community outreach)

The organization has produced an annual Archaeology Fair for more than two decades (celebrating its 21st fair on the Conservancy’s 2025 site), offering hands-on STEM/humanities programming, flintknapping demonstrations, Native American performances, and Scout merit‑badge opportunities.

Secured local grant support for interpretive materials

The Conservancy obtained a Collin County Historical Commission grant (award documented in early 2026) to produce public-facing materials such as a Driving Tour of Historic Cemeteries, demonstrating active engagement with county partners to expand interpretation and access to historic resources.
