About Texas Art Education Association (TAEA)

Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) is the statewide professional association for K–12 and higher-education art educators in Texas, headquartered in Dallas. It supports teachers, administrators, museums and community partners through advocacy, professional learning, publications, and statewide programs. TAEA operates large student- and teacher-facing programs including the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE), Youth Art Month (YAM) activities, TEAM (Texas Elementary Art Meet), txEDCON exhibits, and publications such as the TRENDS journal and the E-STAR newsletter. In recent years TAEA has continued active statewide programming and published regular member communications and conference offerings under its 2022–2027 strategic plan.

Notable achievements

VASE statewide impact (2025)

In the 2024–25 cycle TAEA's Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) ran 28 regional high-school events with roughly 33,000 registered student entries; 2,363 entries advanced to the State VASE event and 164 works received the Gold Seal Distinguished award, demonstrating large-scale student reach and recognition.

Multi-decade service and strategic planning

TAEA has operated as the primary state organization for art educators for multiple decades and is executing a published 2022–2027 strategic plan to guide professional development, advocacy, and student programming across Texas.

Student scholarships and college recruitment

State VASE includes on-site scholarship workshops and college/university portfolio review opportunities; participating students receive medals, awards, and scholarship consideration, creating direct pathways to higher-education art programs.
