CHILD ADVOCATES INCORPORATED
Child Advocates mobilizes court appointed volunteers to break the vicious cycle of child abuse. We speak up for abused children who are lost in the system and guide them into safe environments where they can thrive.
About CHILD ADVOCATES INCORPORATED
Child Advocates, Inc. is Harris County’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program that recruits, trains and supervises volunteer court-appointed advocates who represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in foster care. The organization partners with juvenile and family court judges and child-protective services to guide children into safe, stable, permanent homes through volunteer advocacy, case oversight and community-based support.
Child Advocates operates an active volunteer training program (Advocacy University), runs multiple annual fundraising and service events to support program delivery, and publishes annual reports and audited financial statements to measure program outcomes and accountability. The agency has maintained an active public presence and regular fundraising activity in recent years, including large annual fundraisers and ongoing volunteer recruitment and training cohorts.
Notable achievements
Large fundraising milestones
Child Advocates’ signature fundraisers have generated major support in recent years (for example, Pull for Kids raised seven-figure support in 2023 and nearly $630,000 in 2024; the Superhero Run has engaged hundreds of participants and raised six-figure proceeds), enabling expanded volunteer support and services for children in foster care.
Sustained volunteer recruitment and training
The organization regularly recruits and swears in multiple cohorts of new court-appointed advocates (dozens of new advocates across 2024 cohorts), sustaining capacity to represent children in Harris County dependency cases through its Advocacy University training and supervision model.
Evidence-backed advocacy model
Child Advocates has supported and participated in multi-year research demonstrating that children assigned a trained volunteer advocate achieve better outcomes (including improved social functioning and more timely permanent placements) compared with peers without advocates.
