The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Foundation seeks to improve the lives of people who have sustained central nervous system damage through injury or disease by funding collaborative neurotrauma research, patient rehabilitation support, and youth adaptive programs.

About INSTITUTE FOR REHABILITATION & RESEARCH FOUNDATION

TIRR Foundation is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) public charity that directs and funds Mission Connect, a multi-institutional neurotrauma research consortium focused on spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and related neurological conditions. The foundation also operates youth and family programs (including Moran Camp Xtreme) and provides funding for clinical equipment and rehabilitation-related support. In the last 2–3 years the foundation has continued grantmaking and convening activity (including the Mission Connect symposium series and related research awards) and maintains active partnerships with academic and clinical institutions.

Creator and Director of Mission Connect

Founded Mission Connect to build a collaborative research consortium focused on neurotrauma; the program has funded exploratory basic and translational research and helps researchers leverage follow-on funding.

Moran Camp Xtreme

Operates Moran Camp Xtreme, an adaptive-sports and summer-camp program for children, young adults and families that delivers year-round camp experiences and recreational opportunities for wheelchair-dependent youth.

Founders Award for Neurotrauma Research (named 2023)

Established and named an enduring research award to recognize and support early-stage, high-risk/high-reward neurotrauma research projects within the Mission Connect program.
