About INDIAN DOCTORS ASSOCIATION OF HOUSTON

Indian Doctors Association (IDA) of Houston is a volunteer-led, donor-facing 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1983 that brings together physicians and dentists of Indian origin in the greater Houston area. The association’s stated mission is to “Connect, Inspire, and develop the Community” through professional networking, scholarships, mentoring and community service.

IDA operates a mix of member-focused educational programs and public-facing service activities: scholarship programs for high-school and medical students, a volunteer physician network that supports the Indian Doctors Charity Clinic (IDCC) and community health outreach, and regular continuing medical education and networking events. The organization maintains active partnerships with local academic medical centers and community clinics and continues to file annual IRS Form 990 under EIN 76-0203806, indicating ongoing program activity and financial reporting (most recent publicly filed Form 990 shows activity for fiscal year 2023).

Notable achievements

Endowed scholarships at local medical schools

IDA established endowed scholarship funds to support medical students (notably an Indian Doctors Association scholarship at McGovern Medical School established in 2020 and an endowed award reported with UTMB), and continues to award high-school scholarships and student support through its scholarship programs.

Reopening and expansion of charity clinic (May 2023)

IDA played a leading role in the reopening and operational partnership of the Indian Doctors Charity Clinic at a new facility in May 2023, enabling primary-care services and a planned phased expansion to specialty services (cardiology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, endocrinology) supported by volunteer clinicians.

Secured program grants and sustained program revenue

In recent filings and grant records IDA reported substantial program-service revenue in 2023 and identified grant support (including a program grant in the low five-figure range in 2023), demonstrating continued fundraising and program-delivery capacity.
