About HOUSTON ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION

Houston Architecture Foundation is the nonprofit entity that supports Architecture Center Houston (ArCH), the public-facing cultural and educational arm associated with AIA Houston. It advances public appreciation of architecture and urban design through exhibitions, public programs, tours, youth education, and community partnerships. The foundation operates a downtown cultural space (Architecture Center Houston) that presents rotating exhibitions, lectures, walking and biking tours, and citywide public events designed to engage diverse audiences across Greater Houston. In recent years the organization has run major public programs (including the annual Gingerbread Build-Off), produced exhibitions highlighting local communities and design issues, and continued scholarship and grant activity supporting architectural education.

Notable achievements

Established public architecture center (ArCH)

Supports and operates Architecture Center Houston, a downtown cultural hub presenting rotating exhibitions, lectures, tours and K–12 programming that broaden public engagement with design and the built environment.

Annual Gingerbread Build-Off

Runs a high‑profile annual Gingerbread Build-Off (15th edition held in December 2024; 16th planned for December 2025) that draws thousands of spectators, engages firms and students, and raises funds for educational programming.

Longstanding scholarship and grantmaking

Regularly awards grants and scholarships to architecture students and education programs and has a multi-decade record of supporting architectural education and public programming in the Houston region.
