About Space Family Education, Inc.

Space Family Education, Inc. (SFEI) is a nonprofit child care center founded in 1990 by employees of NASA’s Johnson Space Center to operate the JSC Child Care Center. The organization delivers a literacy‑focused early childhood curriculum (Infant through Pre‑K) with enrichment offerings such as music, movement, sign language, STEM, and extracurricular activities. SFEI operates on Johnson Space Center property under a Space Act Agreement (renewed for a five‑year term in September 2024), is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, participates in the USDA Child Nutrition Program, and maintains routine safety and health inspections. In recent years SFEI has sustained stable enrollment (over 100 families enrolled with an active waitlist), addressed facility repairs from storm damage, and used grant support (Child Care Relief Fund) to cover temporary operating shortfalls while aiming to keep tuition competitive.
