About CanCare, Inc.
CanCare, Inc. is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1990 that trains cancer survivors and caregivers to provide free, one-on-one emotional support, hospital visitation, and online support groups for people affected by cancer nationwide. The organization matches clients with volunteers who share similar cancer types or caregiving experiences and also places trained volunteers for on-site visitation in multiple Houston-area healthcare facilities. CanCare operates a volunteer-driven model intended to complement clinical care by offering peer empathy, practical guidance, and ongoing emotional support. In recent years CanCare has expanded its reach and volunteer base, serving thousands of patients and caregivers each year through telephone, virtual, and in-person support while maintaining its donor-funded, no-cost service model.
