About HOUSTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION

Established in 1994 and relaunched in 2002, the Houston Independent School District Foundation (HISD Foundation) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as the primary philanthropic partner for Houston ISD. The Foundation secures, manages, and distributes private funds in alignment with district priorities—supporting school-based programs, district initiatives, teacher retention, equity and literacy work, and college/career pathways; since its relaunch it has raised nearly $95 million and averages roughly $4.5 million raised annually. In the past 2–3 years the Foundation has continued annual signature events (State of the District luncheon, golf tournament), operated an Ideation Fund for teacher-driven projects, awarded grants to campuses, and partnered with major local and national funders to support campus improvements and program expansion.

Board and community partners have driven targeted campus fundraising (for example, raising six-figure support for campus upgrades at the Arabic Immersion Magnet School), enabling facilities and program investments at individual schools.
