About SMALL STEPS NURTURING CENTER

Small Steps Nurturing Center is a Houston-based nonprofit that operates two tuition-free preschools serving economically at-risk children ages two through five in the Fifth Ward and Gulfton/Sharpstown neighborhoods. Campus expansion — Fifth Ward new wing

Completed an expansion at the Fifth Ward campus and opened an additional classroom (the fourth classroom in the new wing) to increase capacity and better meet local demand for high-quality early childhood seats.

Record fundraising at Golf Classic (2025)

Raised a record-breaking $1 million at the Small Steps Golf Classic in 2025, increasing unrestricted support for operations, program delivery, and campus improvements.

Documented student gains and improved assessment practice

Ongoing program evaluation (in partnership with University of Houston/TIMES) shows Small Steps students score above national norms by program graduation; the organization also transitioned to the CIRCLE assessment in the 2025–2026 school year to assess more students earlier and standardize measurement across campuses.
