About WEST UNIVERSITY AQUATIC CLUB INC

West University Aquatic Club, Inc. (d/b/a West U Piranhas) is a volunteer-run, donor- and membership-facing nonprofit that operates a recreational youth summer swim team serving West University Place and nearby Houston neighborhoods. The organization fields teams that compete in the Southwest Aquatic Swim League (SWAL) and runs tryouts, practices, meets, and community events each season. WUAC is governed by a parent volunteer board, maintains published policies (child protection, attendance, code of conduct), and operates an active public calendar of meets and team activities. The club has a long history in the community (the Piranhas have represented West University Place for decades) and maintains a formal operating relationship with the City of West University Place for use of municipal pool facilities.

Notable achievements

Longstanding community program

The Piranhas have been West University Place’s swim team for multiple decades, maintaining continuous seasonal programming and community presence since the mid-20th century.

Substantial youth participation

The club consistently fields a large summer swim program serving roughly 250–290 youth swimmers per season, offering tryouts, regular practices, and inter-team meets across the SWAL schedule.

Formal municipal partnership

WUAC maintains a written Memorandum of Understanding with the City of West University Place that defines facility use, event scheduling, insurance and staffing reimbursement responsibilities and recognizes the value of the city-supported pool access the club relies on.
