About BLUE TRIANGLE MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION INC

Blue Triangle Multicultural Association, Inc. (EIN 76-0578155) operates the Blue Triangle Community Center at 3005 McGowen St in Houston’s Third Ward. The organization preserves and activates a historic community facility, offering year-round swim instruction, youth enrichment, arts and cultural programming, and venue services that serve multiple generations. In recent years Blue Triangle completed a multi-million-dollar renovation (completed December 2022), stabilized and conserved an important John T. Biggers mural damaged during Hurricane Harvey, and reopened expanded programming including learn-to-swim, health clinics, Juneteenth and community events. The organization is governed by a volunteer board (board president noted as Bobbie Jones) with Charlotte Kelly Bryant serving as Executive Director and is supported by grants, rental revenue, memberships and fundraising.

Notable achievements

Comprehensive facility renovation (completed 2022)

Completed a $5.9M renovation project (lead funding from the State of Qatar Harvey Fund plus support from Houston Endowment, Kinder Foundation and others) that repaired storm damage, upgraded building systems, renewed program spaces and enabled the center to fully reopen to the community in December 2022.

NEH-funded mural stabilization

Secured a National Endowment for the Humanities emergency grant to assess, stabilize and fund initial conservation work (including mold abatement and structural stabilization) for the 1953 John T. Biggers mural "Contribution of the Negro Woman to American Life and Education," which was damaged during Hurricane Harvey.

2023 NCAA Men’s Final Four Legacy Project recipient

Selected as the recipient of the 2023 Men’s Final Four Legacy Project presented by Unilever; the project delivered facility upgrades (new gym floor and equipment, playground and landscaping) that supported reopening of sports and youth activities.
