About Friends of Colorado Avalanche Information Center
Friends of CAIC (Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed to provide financial, educational, and programmatic support to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
The organization raises funds, runs statewide public education and outreach (including a Trailhead Outreach Program and a mobile classroom), supports technology and forecast operations, and partners on avalanche research and signage across Colorado.
In recent seasons Friends of CAIC has prioritized direct operational support for CAIC forecasts, expanded trailhead and mobile outreach, and invested in educational signage, beacon checker parks, and research partnerships to improve avalanche communications and public safety.

Provided $300,000 in direct funding to support CAIC forecasting operations during the 2023/2024 season.
Trailhead outreach impact (2023/24)
Visited over 70–75 trailheads during the 2023/2024 winter season, documenting 7,000+ conversations and running multiple mobile-classroom field days.
Statewide signage & beacon parks
Helped install over 210 educational trailhead signs since 2020 and supported installation of multiple beacon checker stations and transceiver training parks.
