DALLAS AFTERSCHOOL
Dallas Afterschool works to expand access to safe, high-quality out-of-school-time (OST) programs across Dallas County by assessing program safety and quality, providing coaching and workforce development, producing research and tools to target investment, and advocating for public funding and policy that increase equitable access for children and families.
About DALLAS AFTERSCHOOL
Dallas Afterschool is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) intermediary (founded in 2007) that supports and strengthens afterschool and summer programs across Dallas County. It provides program quality assessments, coaching, training, curriculum, technical assistance, workforce development services, and city- and state-level policy advocacy. The organization combines direct program supports (its PQI and ECOST workforce initiatives) with research and tools — including an Afterschool Locator and a 2025 Policy Brief — to identify neighborhoods with high need and to mobilize public and private investment. Dallas Afterschool prioritizes access and equity, targeting increases in free and low-cost programming for children in high-poverty neighborhoods.
Notable achievements
Scale and reach
Built an OST network of over 180 partner sites and reached more than 14,000 students annually (reported in its 2021–2022 annual report), expanding from an initial 25 sites and ~2,000 students.
Systems-level advocacy wins
Played a leading advocacy role that contributed to adding tens of thousands of new OST seats in the community (the organization reports advocacy helped add 30,000 new seats), supported Dallas ISD in opening 73 new afterschool programs, and helped secure a $1 million City of Dallas allocation to support nonprofit childcare programs.
Workforce development outcomes (ECOST)
Launched and scaled the ECOST workforce program to place 100 staff with OST and early childhood providers with a reported 100% retention rate after one year, while providing paid professional development, coaching, tuition support and retention bonuses.
