About Matthew's House Ministry

Matthew’s House Ministry is a faith‑based, donor‑facing nonprofit in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that operates a drop‑in center, food pantry, daily meals, showers, laundry services, and multiple transitional housing programs for men, women, and families. Founded in 2008 by Pastor George Werkema, the organization combines direct basic‑needs services with spiritual formation, counseling, job and life‑skills support and transitional housing to help clients reenter stable housing and employment.

In recent years the organization has expanded programmatic ambitions (including a Tiny Home initiative) and pursued a relocation/expansion of its day‑center operations to better serve Grand Rapids’ West Side. Daily service volume and contributed support have grown, allowing Matthew’s House to scale services and invest in new housing projects and community engagement plans.

Significant growth in contributed support and program scale across 2023–2024, enabling expanded daily meal service, pantry distribution, and transitional housing; reported feeding roughly 50–70 individuals daily and operating multiple transitional homes and family programs.
