About INTERNATIONAL MOTHERBABY CHILDBIRTH ORGANIZATION INC

The International MotherBaby Childbirth Organization (IMBCO) is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Ponte Vedra, Florida, that advances community-informed, respectful, and equitable maternity care around the world. It promotes a MotherBaby–family model of care and works with facilities, providers, communities, and policy stakeholders to strengthen respectful, evidence-based maternity services. IMBCO leads and disseminates the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative (IMBCI) / International Childbirth Initiative (ICI), provides training and learning networks for birth centers and facilities (MotherBaby Networks or MBnets), and supports policy and systems change to expand midwifery-led and respectful maternity care. In recent years the organization has expanded educational programming, multilingual materials, and online webinars while supporting facility-level implementation and peer learning across multiple countries.

Notable achievements

International Childbirth Initiative (ICI) development and dissemination

Originator and steward of the IMBCI (now the ICI), IMBCO developed and published a practical, rights-based set of steps for MotherBaby-centered maternity care and has promoted adoption and adaptation of the ICI across multiple regions and dozens of countries.

Global implementation support and networks

Established demonstration sites and MotherBaby Networks (MBnets) and provided ongoing implementation support and shared-learning structures that help facilities incorporate respectful, evidence-informed maternity practices into everyday care.

Educational resources and capacity building

Produced multilingual guidance, training materials, and webinar series (including collaborative dissemination events with international partners) to train providers and community partners in respectful maternity care and the ICI framework.
