About Stroke Awareness Foundation

The Stroke Awareness Foundation (SAF) is a Campbell, California–based 501(c)(3) public charity focused on improving stroke outcomes through education, public outreach, hospital certification support, and advocacy. SAF works primarily in Santa Clara County to advance stroke systems and protocols, deliver free multilingual stroke education and screenings, and expand access to life‑saving information and recovery resources. In recent years SAF has expanded digital and community programs — including a multilingual mobile app with a stroke center locator and emergency-notification features — and reports multi-year fundraising and community outreach activity (including an annual Fight Stroke Walk and community screenings).

Notable achievements

Established local stroke system standards

Since its founding in 2002, SAF has driven local efforts to standardize stroke treatment and systems of care, prompting broader hospital stroke certification activity in the region.

Multilingual stroke awareness mobile app

Launched and maintained a free multilingual mobile app that locates nearest stroke-certified hospitals, explains stroke signs, and can notify emergency contacts with geolocation to accelerate treatment.

Community outreach & fundraising impact

SAF runs the annual Fight Stroke Walk and community screening programs; recent activity includes multi‑ethnic outreach (over 2,400 participants reached in 2024 across local events) and significant fundraising from events and grants to support local education and outreach.
