SAN FRANCISCO LESBIAN-GAY FREEDOM BAND INC (commonly known since 2024 as the San Francisco Pride Band) is a volunteer, donor-supported 501(c)(3) community music organization offering multiple performing ensembles (concert band, marching band, pep band and smaller ensembles) focused on musical education, visibility for LGBTQ+ communities, and community engagement through public performance. Founded in 1978 as the world’s first openly LGBTQ+ performing ensemble, the organization has a long record of public performances, civic participation (including regular appearances in the San Francisco Pride Parade and City Hall events), and recent programmatic activity such as a BIPOC commissioning program and ongoing concert seasons and outreach that demonstrate active operations in the last 2–3 years.

The organization was formally designated the Official Band of the City and County of San Francisco, a civic recognition that reflects its longstanding public role in city events and celebrations.

Membership-approved rebrand & active commissioning
