About THE WELMAN PROJECT

The Welman Project is a Fort Worth-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that repurposes surplus business materials into free and low-cost classroom supplies and hands-on learning resources for educators and schools. The organization operates a creative-reuse warehouse and community makerspace, runs outreach workshops (such as recycled-material STEM and art activities), and partners with local institutions to expand access to experiential learning. In recent years Welman has grown both programmatically and physically—scaling educator resource distribution, recruiting large volunteer cohorts, and opening an expanded public headquarters and makerspace to better serve North Texas teachers, students, and community groups.

Record distribution of supplies (2024–25)

Distributed a record $2.9 million worth of surplus and donated supplies to classrooms and nonprofits during the 2024–25 reporting year, significantly increasing material access for local educators.

Large-scale educator reach and volunteer engagement

Supported 6,402 educators who saved money on classroom supplies, while engaging 866 volunteers who contributed over 10,000 hours of service in a single year.

Expanded public headquarters and makerspace (2026)

Opened an expanded Fort Worth headquarters and community makerspace to increase public access to creative-reuse materials, program space, and educator resources.
