About MY CONNECT COMMUNITY

My Connect Community (MCC) is a place-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2016 that serves the densely populated Gulfton and Sharpstown neighborhoods of Southwest Houston. MCC organizes neighborhood-centered work across four pillars—housing, health and wellness, education, and economic vitality—to reduce intergenerational poverty and increase opportunity for newcomer and low-income families. MCC operates community programs including English language instruction, financial capability and workforce training, youth supports and school-based social-emotional services, mental health supports, and development of mixed-income housing and local enterprise. The organization publishes regular impact reporting and partners with local institutions and national networks to expand services and capital projects in its impact zone.

Notable achievements

Place-based housing development

Developed and advanced mixed-income housing and community hub projects (including the Connect Highstar concept) to increase access to well-maintained, affordable housing and neighborhood amenities for Gulfton/Sharpstown residents.

Workforce & small-manufacturing initiative

Launched Fabric Forge / HTX Sewn Goods, a local training and production initiative that combines job training, prototyping, and production services to create earn-and-learn pathways and support local entrepreneurs.

Documented neighborhood impact

Published a recent impact report documenting MCC’s outcomes and reach across its impact zone (approximately 19,000 residents), and showing high engagement with newcomer families through targeted programs in the last two years.
