About STEPPING STONE COMMUNITIES INC

Stepping Stone Communities (doing business as Trailhead Community) is a Colorado-based nonprofit developer and operator focused on creating inclusive, attainable housing that integrates adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities alongside seniors and working professionals. The organization developed and opened Trailhead Community, an 81-unit universally designed apartment community in Littleton that emphasizes independence, shared amenities, and cooperative community management. In the last 2–3 years the organization completed construction and moved residents on-site (building open as of October 2024), has run donor and community events to support operations and expansion, and is actively beginning early concept planning for a second community (Victory Village) in Boulder. Stepping Stone Communities is a public 501(c)(3) charity and operates a sister program, Stepping Stone Support Center, which provides life-skills, employment supports, and social programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

Opened Trailhead Community (Littleton)

Completed and opened an 81-unit, universally designed residential community in Littleton (building opened to residents in late 2024) that houses adults with and without developmental disabilities and includes extensive shared amenities and onsite concierge services.

Built a replicable inclusive-housing model

Delivered a first-of-its-kind cooperative, mixed tenant model that intentionally integrates people with I/DD, seniors, and working professionals and emphasizes Universal Design, technology for independence, and resident-led programming.

Established sustained supportive services

Operates a sister organization, Stepping Stone Support Center, which provides prevocational training, employment supports and social programming and serves 100+ adults with developmental disabilities—creating a pipeline of supports that complement the housing project.
