About BAYWORK
Verified EIN 81-2181960 and tax-exempt status: BAYWORK operates as a 501(c)(3) public charity (IRS ruling year 2021) and maintains an active web presence and annual reporting. The organization began as a regional consortium in 2009 and later incorporated as the current nonprofit to centralize workforce development efforts across Bay Area water and wastewater agencies. BAYWORK’s core work is regional collaboration: it brings together signatory agencies, community colleges, industry partners and workforce intermediaries to run apprenticeship and internship programs, cross-agency mentorship, operator training, and targeted recruitment (including Women in the Trades and Veterans initiatives). Recent annual reports and programming (2022–2025) document the organization’s expansion of apprenticeship pathways, a Cross-Agency Mentorship Program, and a first-ever Water Industry Summit. The organization is donor-facing and actively delivers programs, publishes annual reports (including 2022–24 and 2024–25 reports), runs events and trainings, and provides tools and resources for utilities and educators to strengthen hiring, retention, and digital readiness in the water workforce.
