Hoʻōla Music and Cultural Arts

Hoʻōla Music and Cultural Arts (often styled Hoʻōla) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) arts and culture nonprofit founded to teach music and Hawaiian cultural values to young people. The organization centers intergenerational mentorship—connecting keiki with kūpuna—using music, songwriting, storytelling, and cultural practice to strengthen community belonging and personal expression. In recent years Hoʻōla has run place-based programs (notably Hawaiʻi Loa intersession programs on Oʻahu and Hilo), developed culturally grounded curriculum work tied to science and cultural education, and reported regular Form 990 filings. Fiscal reporting for the year ending December 2024 shows significant contributed support and growing net assets, enabling continuation and modest expansion of programming during 2023–2025. Hoʻōla operates as a donor-facing nonprofit with a public web presence, active grant relationships with local foundations, and ongoing program activity rooted in Hawaiian values and arts education.
