About FOR OAK CLIFF

For Oak Cliff is a place-based, resident-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the 75216 “Superblock” of South Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas. The organization operates a 20,000 sq. ft. Community Campus (the former Moorland YMCA) and runs cradle-to-career programming that combines early childhood supports, out-of-school time activities, family stability services, and community-building events. Founded out of a classroom initiative in 2014, For Oak Cliff has grown into a collective-impact backbone organization that organizes annual large-scale events (notably its Back to School Festival), offers GED and workforce programming, maintains weekly food distribution, and partners with local institutions to expand facilities and services. The organization explicitly centers children, families, and long-term community wellbeing while addressing systemic issues like chronic absenteeism, incarceration, and concentrated disinvestment in the neighborhood.

Notable achievements

Community Campus acquisition & grand opening

Acquired and renovated the former Moorland YMCA into the For Oak Cliff Community Campus, a 20,000 sq. ft., 10-acre site that opened with a community ribbon-cutting and now hosts programming, a food pantry, community garden, athletics, and event space.

Scaled Back to School Festival

Established and expanded an annual Back to School Festival (begun in 2015) that has grown into a major neighborhood resource, serving thousands of students and families with school supplies, enrollment assistance, and partner services each year.

Facility upgrades and capital mobilization

Completed a successful capital effort to secure and renovate the campus and attracted corporate and foundation partners for facility projects, including a dedicated gym renovation and investments in campus infrastructure that support expanded programming.
