FIRE SAFE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
The purpose of Fire Safe Santa Cruz County (FSSCC) is to educate and mobilize the people of Santa Cruz County to protect their lives, homes, community, and environment from wildfire.
About FIRE SAFE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
Fire Safe Santa Cruz County (FSSCC) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in September 2016 that coordinates wildfire preparedness, education, and mitigation across Santa Cruz County. The organization works in partnership with CAL FIRE, the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County, local fire districts, water districts, and community fire safe councils to deliver programs and guidance to homeowners and neighborhoods.
In the last 2–3 years FSSCC has actively supported Firewise USA® community recognition efforts across the county, operated no-cost chipping programs, provided Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) assessments, published homeowner guidance (including an updated "Living with Fire" guide in 2023), and held regular public board meetings and reports through 2024–2025. The council’s financial filings show increased fundraising and program support in fiscal 2024 compared with prior years; some programs (notably HIZ) were temporarily paused in 2025 due to funding constraints with plans to resume when funding allows.
