Mission

The Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS) brings together scholars who work to improve methods and practices in psychological science. Its aims include improving training and institutional policies, empirically testing proposed reforms to research practices, and conducting outreach to advance reproducible, transparent psychological research.

About Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science

The Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS) is a member-driven professional society focused on improving research methods, transparency, and reproducibility in psychological science. It organizes annual conferences, runs grants-in-aid and travel-support programs, and supports open research infrastructure and training for researchers at all career stages.

SIPS operates as a U.S. tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and maintains active governance (by-laws, executive board, and a published code of conduct). Established and incorporated

SIPS was founded in June 2016, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in mid-2017, and began collecting membership dues and hosting its annual meetings and programming following incorporation.

Growing international annual meetings

SIPS has run yearly meetings that have grown in size and geographic reach, including large international conferences (examples: 2019 Rotterdam meeting with 521 registrants; 2022 hybrid meeting in Victoria with hundreds of online and in-person attendees; 2023 meeting in Padova with combined in-person and online participation).

Support for open infrastructure and publishing

The society has funded and supported open-science infrastructure (notably contributing to PsyArXiv hosting costs) and established an official journal partnership (Collabra: Psychology) and small funding programs (grants-in-aid, travel and diversity grants) to promote reproducible research and broaden participation.
