About SONOMA FAMILY MEAL

Sonoma Family Meal (SFM) is a Petaluma-based nonprofit social enterprise that strengthens the local food economy and nourishes the community by combining tuition-free culinary job training with large-scale prepared-meal production, community kitchen rentals, catering, and a meal subscription program. Founded in 2017 in response to the Tubbs Fire, SFM has grown from emergency disaster-meal operations into a year‑round provider of meals and workforce development. Recent activity includes the Provisions meal subscription, the launch of the SABOR food truck as a revenue-generating social enterprise, and 2024–2025 impact reporting of tens of thousands of prepared meals, thousands of hours of tuition-free training, and substantial local-produce rescue and redistribution.

Notable achievements

Launched as disaster response (2017)

Founded after the 2017 Tubbs Fire to meet urgent local need; served nearly 20,000 meals in four weeks during the initial response and has produced hundreds of thousands of meals for disaster survivors and food‑insecure households since inception.

Permanent community kitchen & scale-up (2021–present)

Opened its first permanent community kitchen in East Petaluma in 2021 and expanded operations across Petaluma and Sonoma Valley; current kitchen production serves thousands of prepared meals monthly (the organization reports roughly 7,000 fresh, family‑style meals produced per month across its kitchens).

SABOR food truck social enterprise

Launched the SABOR food truck (a student-inspired menu and mobile operation) to create earned revenue, expand job-training and placement opportunities, and directly support tuition‑free culinary training and meal programs.
