About GREAT LAKES STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE

The Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative (GLSI) is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit and statewide network of community-embedded hubs that advances place-based stewardship education in K–12 schools. Expansion of services and statewide infrastructure

With philanthropic support, GLSI developed and launched an expanded suite of services (virtual institutes, educator subscriptions, PBSE Guides, and a statewide teacher fellowship) to extend place-based education to districts and communities not previously served by local hubs.

Sustained professional development and convening leadership

GLSI has organized recurring multi-day Place-Based Education Conferences, seasonal institutes, and ongoing hub-led professional learning that have strengthened teacher capacity, seeded school–community partnerships, and produced student-led stewardship projects with local environmental benefits.
