About THE WORD, A STORYTELLING SANCTUARY, INC.
The Word, A Storytelling Sanctuary, Inc. is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (founded 2016) that advances cultural equity through the literary arts by centering storytelling from marginalized communities and expanding models for publishing, bookselling, and literary community.
The organization runs year‑round programs—including a yearlong Editor–Writer Mentorship, the biennial [margins.] Literary Conference + Book Festival, and the #MarginsBookselling initiative—partners with national arts organizations, publishes annual reports (including public Form 990 filings), and maintains active community and professional-development programming.

Editor‑Writer Mentorship alumni have published numerous books and include recipients of national literary awards and major publishing placements.
Large-scale public festivals
Produced free public Book Festival events and a multi‑day [margins.] conference that convene national authors, publishers and thousands of attendees.
Bookseller recognition program
Established the annual BIPOC Bookseller Award and a national #MarginsBookselling campaign that supports and spotlights over 100 independent bookstores.
